YOU’RE GOING TO HEAR IT HERE FIRST FOLKS…
The 17 year Cicada that wasn’t expected to emerge until mid-May is apparently starting to emerge much earlier than expected!
We actually saw this little guy crawling out of the ground Friday April 19th.
If you look closely you’ll notice the beady red eyes starting to develop.
To our knowledge no one in the state, or in surrounding states, have reported emergence as of yet.
Emergence has a lot to do with warmer than normal ground temperatures brought on by the unseasonably warm February and early March temperatures. The good news is that it doesn’t mean there will be more Cicadas than expected, it just means their emergence may be spread out over a longer period of time.
