Yellowing Oak, River Birch & Maples

Maple, River Birch & Oaks displaying lime green and yellowing leaves are an early warning sign of a serious issue called Iron and/or Manganese Chlorosis.

OAK & RIVER BIRCH…

For the past 50+ years, we have been offering trunk injections for these trees once every three (3) years. Injecting Iron directly into the sap system has proven itself to be an effective treatment that these trees require and surely appreciate. Keep in mind when looking at the following photos, these trees were not trunk injected. Instead, we only applied this new Root Drenching treatment the past three years which achieved the results shown.

Coupling the Iron trunk injections once every 3 years along WITH the ‘Chlorosis Control Basal Root Drench’ product mix we’ve been testing, can’t help but benefit Chlorotic trees far more. We’ve always been honest in telling everyone that trunk injections alone add many years of life to these trees, but that it’s not a forever solution. Eventually, they will no longer accept the Iron because trunk injections alone don’t address the roots. ‘Basal Root Drenching’ will address an important part of the root system near the base of the trees. By combining both treatments, we feel certain that the life expectancy for these valuable trees will improve dramatically.

MAPLES…

Owners of Maples trees suffering with Chlorosis have been waiting for a viable treatment. The many tests we ran in the past did not work sufficiently. The trunk injections we perform on Oaks & River Birch have never worked on Maples. We’ve never had a viable treatment to offer…until now. After observing our results after three (3) years of ‘Basal Root Drenching’, we noticed chlorotic Maple leaves greened up to varying degrees, and at the very least the trees’ canopies became noticeably thicker and healthier, which means these Maples are much happier.

The Chlorotic condition represented in the before pictures is a result of soil pH being too high (alkaline) which is often a result of high clay content in the soil. These varieties of trees prefer more acidic soil with a lower pH. When soil pH is too high it prevents tree roots from absorbing Iron and Manganese naturally. When those minerals are in short supply, these trees weaken and die.

WHY IS THIS TREATMENT IMPORTANT?

When a tree’s leaves are varying shades of lime green or yellow, it tells us that they lack chlorophyll which is a critical component tasked with absorbing and converting sunlight into the starches and sugars trees rely on for energy. Lacking this energy inevitably leads to premature death.
